If you are talking stomach flu...dry soda crackers and electrolytes and water.

If you are talking a Cold Flu...try a hot steamy tea or soup. I use peppermint tea, I can feel almost a clean feeling while drinking it. Don't forget honey to sooth the cough, and salt water gargle for any possible sore throat.

Flu is caused by a virus. It normally takes the defence system of the body 3-4 days to clear the infection and its sequences.
relief of the symptoms depends on what symptoms are annoying you most. For example fever is a very common symptom and this can be dealt through a simple analgesic/antipyretic like paracetamol or ibubrofen. The same medications will help the headache which is another major symptom. On the other hand if the major symptom is runny or blocked nose(from the excessive secretions) then you need a decogestant like an antihistamine( many over the counter medications exist).Adequate hydration by drinking plenty of water help to restore the water you loose because of the fever and also through the secretions. There is no good evidence that taking vitamins during the flu it self shortens or lessens the attack but vitamins are good for your health

Lots of fluids. keep your temperature down maybe with a fan. use an anti-febrile. I prefer soluble paracetamol, that is also a pain killer and anti inflammatory. Those properties help too. someone suggested scotch. a hot toddy, scotch, sugar and hot water or scotch, sugar and honey will make you feel a little better. But don't over do it. try to keep away from other people - don't go to a doctors surgery and spread it to other patients - you could kill chronically sick people or old people with your flu virus and stay off work until it has gone completely. If your throat feels really bad that means your immune system is making T-cells these are the big guns that it has to fight viruses and bacteria - so even though you feel worse - you are actually getting better! Don't take antibiotics unless you have a secondary infection - a bacterial infection like bronchitis or pleurisy. Vitamin C may help - but it has never been proven - it most likely helps prevent colds and flu. You will feel shivery if you are in a room below room temperature and hot if you are in a warm room - so try to keep the room at room temperature. Getting a high body temperature can lead to fits and other problems - also get plenty of rest. Keep your mind occupied. Lying in bed watching TV is good - if it doesn't bore you to death. Personally, I'd take my laptop to bed with me - and soluble paracetamol for the duration.
Get well soon.

Thereyouarethen has it nailed.

If it's really flu, you'll have a high fever, joint pain, headache, and a cough and a runny nose. In this case you'll need a week of rest to clear it, with lots of fluids and paracetamol for the symptoms.

If it's a bad cold, it should clear quicker, but the treatment is the same!

Beachams cold n flu or any other brand but, don't try and fight it off if you really feel awful just take time off work or studies n you'll feel betta in the long run!

Been there done that it was not pretty and I ended up really ill and for much longer. Plus don't you just hate those who act like martyrs goin in to work and spreadin it all around! Nice!

Lots of TLC, drugs, tissues, fruit juice n a good film on telly is a winner every time!

Lots of fluids, vitamin c (fresh fruit such as oranges) and paracetamol for the fever symptoms. Stay warm, and rest.
Dont bother about antibiotics, they wont do a thing for flu.

No B.S. Pain relief for the aches, and sleep for all the other symptoms.

If you have a sympathetic doctor, the same medication will help you with both. A good, strong soporiphic.

Benylin 4 flu. This comes in tablet or liquid form. Ask the pharmacist first though if you are on medication for anything. Don't take paracetemol with this medicine.
