I worked in a call centre for four years. When I started it was The Pocket Phone Shop but was later taken over by T-Mobile. I worked in the customer service dept and would take abusive phone calls from 9am till 6pm. i only stayed because it was very good money and when T-Mobile bought it out I knew that eventually I would be made redundant so i stuck it out for the pay. I now regret it because I ended up having a nervous break down and didn't work for over a year once I was made redundant. I now leave a job if I wake up every morning filled with dread.
So my advice for anyone thinking of working in a call centre - DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!

I work in a call centre... depends who you're speaking to. Sometimes it can be crap (like today when it took me HALF AN HOUR to persuade some old man that the fact their insurance policy was held with another company meant they'd have to ring that company if they wanted to discuss it and I couldn't help them) whereas sometimes it can be quite good since I work with a good bunch of people.

Depends on the call centre.
====================

Do they respect you ?

Do you have enough time with the customers to serve them properly?

Do you have a career path ?

Do they care about you ?

If more than 2 are positive then you are doing well!

Call centre staff are like those caged chickens that are stuffed in an enclosed space and expected to produce. I went for a call centre job once and I'm so glad I didn't get it. I would have hung myself for sure by now...

CRAP being the operative word - all you get is abuse and no thanks - you are tied to a ball and chain every move you make is logged - no more call centres for me not for a million pound an hour

It is complete crap. I worked in a call center for Vector Marketing (only the biggest college working scam in the entire USA!) and I hated every single second of it. Call centers suck.

years ago there used to be huge halls full of clerks, then there were massive typing pools, now we have call centres. Its all about being at the cheapest end of the labour market. - any moneky can do it. Best of luck with your career.

I worked as a career counselor. I have heard from so many people that the call center is a god-awful, full of demons and devils. get out while you still can.
