I take naproxeno during the 3 days before my period (500 mg once a day) and continue taking it the 3 first days of my period as well, but twice a day.
I have very hurtful cramps because an ovary cyst that I have.
BTW, the correct spelling of the chamomille tea in spanish is manzanilla, and yes, it works too.

Why is a dude asking this...? Lol
But try some Midol. It's an over the counter medicine specifically ment for menstral cramps and the ill-feeling that comes along with it.
Also, have the girl place a heating pad on her lower stomach. This helps, try it! :D

Painkillers like paracetamol or ponstan is ok. But its best NOT to take drugs as period cramps is nature's way of saying your ovulation is working well.
So for an alternative method, try warm-hot soymilk. It works wonders.
Also sex works. :) No, not masturbation. Sex.
