You have a high compression engine. (More power in these things)
So you MUST use the higher octane gasoline.

Try a few tank fulls of the supreme gasoline with 91-93 octane. the noise should go away.

A high compression engine must use the higher octane gasoline to prevent engine knock (rattling) especially when you "floor" it. Engine knock is very bad, it's occurring because of what is known as pre-ignition or spontaneous ignition.

If you've been filling up the gas tank with the cheap 87 octane (meant for low compression engines) then you'll hear engine knock, which is what you are describing.

It sounds like pre-ignition PINGING. Try using the a grade of gas that has the highest octane rating you can find. I have never used it but I have heard that there are places in the LA area where you can buy gas with a rating of 100 or better. This is for the high performance cars out there. I think you need to use premium gas and maybe even buy an octane booster.

Thomas is correct, it is a pre-ignition ping caused by the fuel-air mixture igniting on its own before the spark plug fires. The two flame fronts super-compress the fuel-air between them and the result is an explosion you hear as a knock.

It's bad for the engine. It could melt a hole in a piston.

Use premium gas in that car.

"The last of the V8 interceptors ... "

Listen Mad Max, maybe the engine is making funny noises because there's some Pantera blasting-teenage clown flooring it every time he takes off from a red light ...

sounds like the gas is too low of an octane
add a booster for now and start using higher grade fuel.
Dont let your fuel tank get close to empty either, sediments
clog your line

My most basic guess would be octane. High performance engines require a high octane.

it just means that it is not a police car anymore and need to be driven with care, also it could just mean that the engine is working a little bit more then it is used to

try using super unleaded and possibly a octane boost.

If that is how you drive it, perhaps you have a broken motor mount.
