greg is right. Terrell Owens and Terrell Davis have a first name that is spelled the same but they are pronounced differently. In the late 90's when Davis was looking like the best running back ever Terrell Owens was just beginning to show that he would be a great receiver. Everyone pronounced both names ta - Rel, because Terrel Davis pronounced it that way and he was the most prominent at that time. Today, Davis is just an analyst and Owens is one of the best wide outs in the game, so people have begun to pronounce both names like Terr - el.

This is what prompted the NFL network commercial where Davis is seen saying "It's pronounced ta - Rel."

Well normal pronounciation rules (see below) would keep people from saying his name as TA-Rell. Now only his parents can really say how the name should be pronounced since they are the ones that named him. I'm sorta assuming since you didn't bother to say my sons or my brothers name that your not related so because you pronounce the name one way does not mean it is the correct way.

Admittedly the names below are not the exact spellings but they are the closest to his name to still give a proper pronunciation for the way his name should be pronounced.

It's spelled for that pronunciation. Like Terry Bradshaw or Terrible Towel. It's and english speaking nation not a slang speaking nation. How about Tuhrell?
Language is the clearest indicator of intelligence. It shows that someone has studied and read and percieves the world around in broader terms. Trying to foist street slang on the majority doesn't go very far. While slang is enjoyable word play for white folk, it doesn't get the job done when it comes to important communication in the workplace or political enviroment.
If you look at successful black people, most of them sound fairly white in their use of language.
It ain't because they have turned their backs on their race and wanna be white. They simply get it. Words are powerful tools.

I didn't think Owens was that difficult to pronounce. As for Te_rell, that's an odd name, but it's his. Anyway, What's the difference, the guy is a worthless hot dog, and a problem child for coaches and owners, and probably won't be with Dallas for long, and then we won't have to care how it's pronounced.

No offense, but are you sure? Why would the first E be pronounced A? Is it part of a new language? It should have been spelled like that, then there would be no mispronunciation. Just my thoughts.

How boring is your life that you are that concerned about the way white people pronounce some jerks name? You still weren't clear with the pronunciation. Is it "tare-ril" or "ter-rel?" Because I've always used the long A sound as in "tar-ril."

T.O? Who cares anyway? He's a loser no matter who pronounces his name. Let's all just stop saying his name and see if he doesn't all of a sudden feel like playing so he can hear his name 24/7. In his defense, the Cowboys are all losers too!

It is the same reason why some African Americans say AX rather then ASK. Pure laziness on both races. It takes very little effort to learn how to pronounce a name or word correctly.

No offense...but why is it that black people always call out white people.

If we did the same we would be called racist.

ex. How come black people can't pronounce the word ask?
It's said ask not ax. I don't want to ax you a question.
