Do you mean "flashing lights" within the eyeball by any chance? It's some kind of disturbance to the optic nerve. Pressing on the eyeball, or the traditional blow to the head will do it.

You'd have to super-size your eyes to have the capacity to consume several large burning balls of gas and dust.....keep eating carrots.... perhaps that's the answer.
