How many 'Thank you's to 'You're not smart enough's?
How many thank you's to make up for one?

I don't know how to make it simpler. If a person tells you that you are not smart... then how many times does that person have to tell you thank you (for dinner, etc) to make up for it? (I'm over simplifying it...the insults are MUCH more).

In terms of argument versus positive interaction, the ratio I have heard is 1/6th of the time. That is, if you argue much more than 1/6th of your time together (about 16%), then you're headed for trouble. If you argue about 1/6th of the time, then that's a healthy balance. Arguments and conflicts are normal types of communication in a marriage, but just not too much of it.

You know, it almost looks like there's a question there, too!

"acceptable ratio" of what?

Your ratio is undefined.

If you want it in mathematical terms, all you need is 1. "I love you". That's it.

Deep, huh?
