see, the thing is, no one really knows, and quina doesn't care enough to tell them.
quina's presence in the game is actually mostly for comedic relief. it really doesn't matter if it's a he or a she. none of the characters know either.
you also reference how they call it s/he, and then suddenly say him. the reason for this is simplification of grouping.
for example, if there are a group of friends of yours, with both guys AND girls, people would generally say "hi, guys"
just like in spanish. if you've got 1 brother, and two sisters, but want to say "my brothers and sisters", you would simply say "mis hermanos" - directly translated, that means "my brothers"
whenever you have mixed company, it is common to refer to the group as male
because the question of quina's sex is up to question, and the words "her" and "him" are so different, it's just simpler to say "him" than to say "her"
now, you might wonder "but jim, it's just four more spaces, a slash and then the word her, is it really that big of a deal?"
and i would answer, "but, gentle reader, remember also that the game is translated from japanese, where the word "him" might actually have been the more proper word to use. why would they change a translation dramatically?"
hope that clears this up for you a little - just remember. no one knows if quina is a boy or a girl.

It depends on how you play the game. If you take a certain turn in the storyline then he's well a he, and the other way she's a she. Sorry that I cant be of more help.
