If you are called for jury service, report to the jury waiting room on the day you are assigned. If your name is drawn to go up for a jury selection, be honest in your answers to the questions asked of you. If you are seen as a person who could no be impartial for whatever reason, you will likely be excused from that panel and sent back down to wait again.
Don' t just fail to appear on your day, sheriffs are sent out to pick up jury members who don't show up, because they're in effect ignoring a subpoena.

Well a friend of a friend had like a 3 week old, exclusively breastfed baby and she brought her baby with her to the courthouse when she was summoned. Basically they tore a strip off her for using her baby as a pathetic excuse to weasel her way out of civic duty. She had to serve, and ended up having to supplement with formula because she couldn't get the hang of pumping. You basically either have to be dying or out of the country (or dying in another country) to get out of it. I have recevied notices two years in a row that I am on the roll call. I heard though, that if you just admit to being a racist they'll let you off. I have to admit, I would try just about anything to get out of jury duty right now because I have 3 small kids (one still nursing although he's 14 months) and child care would be almost impossible to arrange for days on end. I would "do my civic duty" without complaint a few years from now, but just right now would be horrendous. So yeah, even though it's wrong and all that rot, I'd probably just lie and say I was a racist, or whatever it takes.

I think the onyl way you can actually really get out of jury duty is if you have a dependent child that you cannot leave or if you are disabled. However, just being called in does not mean you will be picked. if you have a problem and cannnot show up on your scheduled date, call and reschedule.
It is our civic duty to attend jury selection, wouldnt you want a wide selection of your peers to show up if for some reason you ended up needing a trial by jury?

Did you know there was a time in this country where if you stood before the judge and he THOUGHT you looked guilty, then you were.
You will have the ability to see and listen to any and all facts pertaining to the case where someone's future is in your and eleven other people's hands.
Still, there are those who see this as an inconvenience and an interruption of their lives.Like voting. I have spoken to so many people who have come here from other countries and the first thing they tell me what drew them here is the Jury Process where you're judged by your peers, not the judge.

If i am not mistaken one of the first questions they ask is if you are able to keep an open mind and give a fair chance etc, and do not know any information about the trial....
You must show up if asked, but once there they ask sooooo many questions and you can opt out more or less, especially because you wouldn't be giving anyone a fair decision, since you are against it.. so i don't think you would have a problem.
Best of luck

If you mention the issues you have with judging other people and the hang ups about the law that you have you will more than likely not be chosen for a jury. One of the requirements is that you have to be able to judge someone.

I think you are nuts. Our justice system definitely has it flaws, but look around the world and you will see it's still the best on earth, BECAUSE of the people who are part of it.People like juror's.Serving on a jury should be and IS a honor, not a nuisance.

I've gotten my ex-boyfreind out of jury duty by sending a reply that he cannot financially afford to miss a day of work as he was the sole supporter of the household. I also got my ex-hubby out of it by stating that he had a minor child to care for while I was at work. They must've bought it because neither one ever had to go to duty!

You can say that you do not agree with the case or that you are partial to one person than the other. They're many ways of getting out of it. And you could also say that it is against your morals.

You can use financial strain as a reason. I think you have to prove it though. I got a note from my doctor regarding my anxiety attacks. Wouldn't it be great sitting in there and start to have a panic attack! They would kick me out in a second anyway.
