If diamonds are your best friends, treat them accordingly. Regular cleaning will keep your jewels sparkling.
Soapy Solution
Steps:
1. Take a small bowl and mix a small amount of mild dish detergent with warm water until sudsy.
2. Dip the item to be cleaned into the solution.
3. Dip a soft toothbrush into the cleaning solution, and gently brush the item.
4. Rinse in warm running water.
5. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Warnings:
Don't be too aggressive when brushing your jewelry. Though diamonds are hard, the material in which they're set may not be. Gold and silver could be scratched if brushed too hard.
Ammonia Solution
Steps:
1. Take a small bowl and mix a solution of 6 parts water to 1 part ammonia.
2. Dip the item to be cleaned into the solution.
3. Dip a soft toothbrush into the cleaning solution, and gently brush the item.
4. Pay special attention to the backs of stones and their mountings, areas that tend to collect dirt and oils.
5. Rinse in warm running water.
6. Pat dry with a soft lint-free cloth.
Tips:
For especially soiled diamonds, mix a solution of half cold water and half ammonia in a small bowl. Let the item soak in the solution for 30 minutes, then gently brush the item with a soft toothbrush. Rinse in warm running water and allow the item to air dry on paper towels.
Warnings:
Be sure to use the ammonia and ammonia-water solution only in a well-ventilated area, and avoid inhaling the ammonia solution directly.
Tips from eHow Users:
Toothpaste by Karen
I have always used toothpaste (no special kind) to clean all of my rings and gold necklaces, and it does a good job. It makes the gold, as well as the diamond, shine. As I rinse them, I use a toothbrush to get all the toothpaste off.
Victoria's Secret body wash by eHow Friend
Using Victoria's Secret Dream Angels body wash works really well. Add some with water and let your ring soak. When it's done soaking, I always clean mine off with a toothbrush. My jeweler recommended this trick.
P.S. It doesn't matter what scent of Dream Angels you use.

Depending on where you bought the rings, most places will clean them and check to make sure the diamonds are still firmly set. If you just need to do a quick clean, use an old toothbrush and use toothpaste and start brushing. You can also soak your rings in a mixture of vinegar and water then brush. Make sure you rinse well with either method and dry to a sparkle! Congrats on your marriage!

I can understand your problem. Don't worry, you can easily clean your diamond ring with the dish washing method. Just follow these simple and easy cleaning tips and make your old diamond like a new.
Put a few drops of liquid dish detergent in a bowl of warm water
Soak the gold jewelry in the solution for 15 minutes
Scrub each piece of jewelry with a soft-bristle toothbrush.
Rinse each piece in warm running water.
Blot dry with a soft cloth.

You're never going to get a ring, particularly around the stones, as clean as you can with an ultrasonic cleaner. It's gets places the bristles on a brush will never reach. Even if ammonia dissolves/cleans it...the gunk still has to be taken away from where it is.
A quick alternative is to go to a jewelry store and ask them to give it a quick dunk in their ultrasonic cleaner. Generally they do this as a courtesy as they're trying to sell you more jewelry. If it's convenient, the store where the engagement ring was purchased will likely do it for free as a courtesy, too.

I've used Polident to clean mine. Take a tablet and break off a small piece. In a small container add very hot water, the Polident, and your ring. Just watch the crud dissolve!!!! When bubbles stop, rinse and dry.

Please don't brush your diamonds.
I don't know how to clean them without a specially made product but I think "brushing" diamonds is not a good idea.
