Find a common denominator and convert the two into that common denominator. Then add them together and simplify if possible. For example
1/3 + 1/6 = ? The common denominator would be 6. So you change the first fraction to 2/6 and the second stays the same. Then you would get 3/6 as the answer. You can simplify that to 1/2. Good luck!

make the demonators (bottom# of fractions)equal to eachother. To do this, find a # that both demonators go into evenly. Then multiply the numerators by that #. To make it less confusing, here is an example: 3/7+4/9=?
7 and 9 go into 63. To make 7=63, you would mulitply by 9. You would do this to the numator to get 27/63 (still is = to 3/7). You would then see that to get 9=63, you would multiply by 7. Do that to the 4 to get 28/63. Now u would add the numerators only (28+27) to get 55. Your answer would be 55/63 (if possible u may need to simplify)

There are a couple of techniques. One is to find a common denominator. Then add the numerators. The resulting numerator over the common denominator is the answer. This might be reduced if the numerator and denominator share a number in common in their multiples. The technical term escapes me. Four sixths reduces to two thirds.
The other method is to use a scientific calculator. I am certain that if you are a student, the teacher wants you to use the first method.

Ex 1/3 + 7/9
Find a common denominator
1/3 becomes 3/9
Now add
3/9 + 7/9 = 10/9 or 1 1/9
