That is why he has to defend himself: because he knows that the majority of the electorate are against him on that issue. Same here with Tony Blair, who is finally going, thank God!

Because he is our leader. The leader of a free nation is always going to have to defend his actions. The only leaders who do not have to defend their actions are dicators. I am not sure that Bush made a mistake. Saddam was talking big and trying to manaver to take over parts of other mid east countries. My life experience has been if you allow someone to bully you (as Saddam was trying to do to us) the next thing you know everyone and his brother are bullying you. The liberals do not understand that their ways will end us up in a big war. If you read history, you will find that all wars are caused by one country trying to bully another country, getting by with it at first, then keeping on until there is no choice but to go to war.

The war is unpopular for a variety of reasons. He's trying to convince people he's strong and will "stay the course", regardless of how many people think he's wrong.
To the people who think liberals should just shut up -- that's a pretty unpatriotic stance. If someone thinks this country is on the wrong track or doing the wrong thing, it's their patriotic duty to say so.

So if he never defended the war you guys would be complaining about that too! He just can not win and He could care less what you think. He does what he feels is right and he follows through with it. Unlike past presidents who could have nipped 9/11 in the butt before it ever happened. I would rather have a proactive president then one who is worried about the poles and bases his decisions on his popularity.

He's on the defensive--he knows most of us don't agree with the war, and he wants to be popular, so he keeps trying to convince us that he did the right thing, even though all we have to do is look at the body count to know better.

Of course he cannot change the minds of bone headed hippies who opposed the war and any other that defends US interests.
He must defend the war to normal Americans who can at times grow weary of war, I doubt he thinks much about the views of peaceniks.

Do you have any idea what it is really like over there?
Do you realize how bad they hate us?
This war has been going on for thousands of years. It is imperative that we protect our nation and our interests. If it were up to the people of these poor nations, we would all be third world countries.
I am not to say who is right, but we need somebody to step up and decide. Bush has atleast taken action. I would go to war for him, for my family, for my country. I will go to war so you can say whatever you feel so inclined to say.

Possibly because he has never given a valid reason for invading Iraq in the first place which has also involved English and Australian troops.

I think he's just trying to make himself feel better. After all, he's killed over 2,000 and injured over 15,000 of our family members and friends. He spews the same words every time he speaks it seems. Maybe he just has one speech that he uses, and adds things depending on the location!
