These are all worth watching:
Creepshow (1982) - A collection of short horror flicks. Campy fun and creepy, too. "The Crate" and "Father's Day" are the scariest, but the others have their moments, except perhaps "Jordy Verrill." This is one of those movies that years later still has you quoting lines with your friends.
Psycho (1960) - Just saw it again recently and couldn't believe how unnerving the shower scene still is....
The Shining (1980) - Maybe the highest percentage of scary scenes ever in one movie. Man goes crazy while trapped in a remote snowbound resort. Heeere's Johnny!
Jaws (1975) - The original killer great white shark film. The shark looks awful compared to today's special effects, but there's still plenty of scenes to make you jump.
The Changeling (1980) - A great haunted house movie -- very creepy; no gore to speak of.
Poltergeist (1982) - Another movie about a haunted house. That clown toy is enough to turn you off the circus forever.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) - I was afraid to sleep for days after seeing the original Fredd Krueger inhabiting the dreams of a group of teenagers. Still my favorite slasher flick.
The Others (2001) - Another ghost story thriller that's gore-free. What's up with the children? Are they really allergic to sunlight? Or is their mother just a nutter?
The Fog (1979) - Bad fog rolls into a seaside town and a lot of death rolls in with it. Major creep factor and a great cast of horror film veterans! The 2005 remake doesn't hold a candle to the original.

The Grudge, and the origianl Japanese version, Ju-On are very scary. It's about a house where something horrible happened and now the people that lived in the house take revenge on the people that live there. The little kid is so creepy, he scares the CRAP out of me. If you've seen The Ring, and thought it was scary, youd probably like The Grudge.

I agree, The Shining is a great movie. You could try some great Asian horror/ suspense like Audition. Seriously, it's so scary I can't bear to watch it again. Don't forget about the classics. Freaks, the origional Night Of the Living Dead, and Dawn of the Dead are slam dunks! Enjoy!

You should rent/buy IT...Tim Curry is the actor in it. The movie scared the living hell out of me as a kid. it's a kind of old-school scary movie. Also Friday the 13th...Halloween...The Shining. Those are some of the classic horror films.

High Tension: It is a freaky, gory movie...lots of gore! Not "jump out of your skin" scarey...but scarey in the idea of heart racing scarey!
Saw 2: Also another Heart racing scarey movie!
You can get good info on all the movies suggest by going to
www.imdb.com and type in the movie title. Have fun!
