Please consult another doctor. You may need further testing to find out what's wrong. Even if stress is your diagnosis, your doctor should be referring you to a therapist or someone to help you deal with the stress. In the meantime, you should be on medication to help with your stress until you learn how to control it with the help of a therapist, etc.

OH! Yes I know what that's like. You need to have a stool culture done by the experts (not just at a medical centre). Find a doctor who also knows about diet, alternative therapy, general health of the whole person and who also specialises in this area. Don't just settle for diagnoses such as CHROHN'S Disease, IRRITABLE Bowel Syndrome, COELIAC Disease (MUST be diagnosed by biopsy).
I investigated all areas including:
Bugs, diet (+food allergies and intolerances), stress, and also sort prayer for healing.
All of these are involved and I now know how to keep myself free from any further attacks.
Bugs - I make sure I have clean water (filtered).
Diet - I eat mostly wholesome foods (cut down on processed foods, carbohydrates, fast foods/cakes/sugar). Eat more vegetables, drink water. Take some probiotic (e.g.acidophylis)-minimises bloating/wind/fermentation/candida in the bowel and fights the bad bugs. Dont let the bad bugs get the upper hand!
If you eat a large meal take a Digestive Enzyme. You can also take some form of slippery elm+ other soothing herbs (e.g.Slippery Elm and Matrix support-Eagle brand is great for me!-this sooths the stomach and bowel).
Stress - I take St Johns Wort to help relax me.
Prayer - I get prayer for general wellbeing and healing fairly regularly. ( I belong to a church and am involved in groups).
NB. If you are in Australia you can have prayer through www.healingrooms.com.au OR www.healingrooms.com (US).
I am reading "The Makers Diet" by ?Reuben Jordan (Biblical point of view). Great story about how he became HEALTHY after much diarrhoea and loss of weight. God bless.M (female)

Find another doctor and ask him/her to rule out the following: Hyperinsulinemia (fasting blood insulin test); candida overgrowth (stool sample and other special tests); gluten allergy (stool sample and other special tests for gluten antibodies).
I don't know for sure that one of these is your problem, however, these are conditions that exist that doctors don't find easily. There is some basic info at www.hufa.org, especially at the symptoms link, about blood sugar imbalances and what they can cause.

Ask your doctor about IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). It is not caused by stress, but stress can increase the symptoms. There are medicines available to treat it.
