I have always taken my kids on vacations in the summer during school recess. My daughter is approaching 12 and the Son just turned 10. I live in the Northeast and want to take them to disneyworld next year in Florida. The only thing is that it is really hot in the summer down there. I think I would much rather go in the winter. Plus it seems to be alot cheaper then.

I am divorced so taking them down there between Christmas and New Years break is not a possibility.

I have been to WDW 15 times in my life and I'm 22. I've been down there over the holiday season as well in February. It really depends on your preference, however, let me tell you that it will be more money for you to take the kids in December because the prices are hiked-up because of the holidays. If you are planning on staying at a Disney Resort, you will pay significantly more money in December than say if you went in July or August. Don't get me wrong. WDW in December is amazing. Your children would love seeing the park decorated for the holiday seaons. It is absolutely breathtaking!! If you are wanting to save money, your best bet is going to be to take the kids in February. It will be lease crowded then if you were to go in December.
If you have any other questions, let me know. I love WDW! Hope this helps you! BTW, consider purchasing the Birnbaum's Offical Guide to Walt Disney World. It has a lot of great information and helpful hints to help with your planning!

I'm assuming that you have custody since you don't have your kids on Christmas break, which really isn't the issue but would increase your ability to take them when you want.

Before you take your kids out of school you need to evaluate priorities. How much will it cause them to get behind? If your kids get behind how hard will it be for them to catch up and how much teasing will they have to endure from classmates for falling behind? Can you talk with the teachers and see what you can do to help them keep up with studies while they are away? However I don't think your kids will like having their vacation turned into homeschool.
It might be better to wait until summer right after school lets out before it gets real hot or spring break.

Your vacation should be a positive thing but interfereing with school could create something not so positive when you return.

It shouldn't be a problem - as long as you're sure they're not missing "big tests" or portions of teaching that cannot be made up. This would include if they miss a lecture or field trip - so, as with most issues and questions in life, "it depends." Be prudent in your judgment of what they'll be missing. Talk with their teachers - they'll be glad to fill you in. At our school district, the policy now is that the kids can be taken out if you know in advance, but their work has to be turned in *before* the trip. Their district may, or may not, be the same.

We take our trips to Florida in January. Take them out and have fun. You are right, it is cooler and cheaper then. Not to mention less crowded. Enjoy your trip. Your kids will thank you for it. Quality time with just dad will be way better then staying in school. Make sure they take any homework they need to do during that week. Have them do that in the morning and then go and have fun. We did that when we went and everyone was happy.

Yeah, if you're kids do okay in school it's no big deal to make the homework up or get stuff done in advance. My parents took us for trips all the time during school.

depends on how long you would be gone and how they are doin in school....if they are both doin well and you will only been gone for about a week, I see no problem as long as they can make up anything that they miss in school....family is the most important thing in the world, I think it's wonderful that you WANT to spend time with ur children...why can't ALL men be that way???

well at That age it should not interfere with school, if the teacher is cool they can make it up. enjoy the young age because once their in 9th grade on up it is a big pain in the butt to make up work and so on, enjoy the fun while their young- they will love it more while their at that age. if u go now it will be more memorable. do it before they get in high school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
