Crime in South Africa is undesirable. And killings take place so oftentimes it would not even get mentioned interior the papers / new any further. In a undeniable suburb one domicile consistent with night or each 2 nights gets robbed. The robbers are not fearful of the police, the police are fearful of them. human beings will ruin into your place, tie everyone up, rape the girl, no count what age they are and then sparkling your place out with all your assets all in a count of 20 - half-hour. The crime stats released, are controlled by potential of government, so for sure they are going to be altered to make it appear as if the police is doing their activity. yet on the top of the day..... They not...

It's quite bad at the moment, but definitely exagerated. the Crime Expo website is some disgruntled attorney's personal attempt to crash the SA tourist industry. Rather try http://www.realsouthafrica.co.za/ which gives a much truer picture. i've been living in London for 2 years, going back to South Africa next year to settle - and just looking at the children here, then I believe that SA will be a better place to be in 20 yaers time. It's scary here I tell you. And crime isn't far behind, just not as publicised.

The crime rate in South Africa is high and unnecessary. It is not as bad as what most people make it out to be but there is crime going on here. All you need to do is take simple precautions and you will be fine! I live in Pretoria and have always. I know!

The crime rate in South Africa is quite high if compared to the rest of the world. However it is not a war zone, we do not have to belly crawl through the streets dodging bullets unlike popular beliefs.

I live in johannesburg, which if you believe all the crap that gets fed to you here, is the "most dangerous place in the world". Whatever. Each country has its issues, South Africa's at the moment is crime. We know it and we live accordingly.

I hope I gave you an insight into the real SA.

It is very bad.

My wife and I have just come back from a holiday there and when we were in Cape Town we were told not to go out after 6pm without getting a reputable taxi company (i.e. one from our hotel)

We also went to Knysna (very small place on the south coast) and we saw quite a lot of crime there too.

I guess the reason for it is the amount of poverty that exists there as there are many people living in tin and wooden huts in the townships and townships are everywhere.

SA's crime is unacceptably high, but it depends on the area. Tourists are unlikely to be a victim of violent crime in SA if they avoid the no-go areas. Just be sensible! Although tourists must be aware of their surroundings, crime is more a perception than a reality for the tourist. The overwhelming majority of tourists complete their SA trip without being a victim of crime. I've done some research on this topic, so drop me an e-mail if you want any more information! ;)

Unfortunately it is quite high!!! But it is not that bad that you have to lock yourself up 24/7. I still jog at night after work, and I do not live in a security area.

It depends on where you go. It is not any different from America. Any country has got its crime.

I love my country, crime, racism, the lot!!!

Depends where you are. Who you are.How you act. Same as any where else.

A word of advice. Avoid black cops...many are worse than the criminals they are employed to protect us from.
