If you have not had any acting gigs in 12 years, then there is nothing to update. Your prior acting experience is as valid now as it was when you last submitted the resume. I would just make sure the info is complete and correct. It is more important to have an accurate and honest resume than one with a lot of "filler". If they happen to ask when your last job was, be honest and say you have been working on other things since then but you are very interested in reading for their current production.

Acting resumes are very different from other kinds of resumes.
You'll just need your name and contact info at the top followed by, in reverse chronological order, a list of the roles you've played. For each role, list the play, the theater and the town that you were in. If the role requires explanation then you can add a brief note. This can be necessary of you are playing a large role in an unknown show.
At the bottom you can list any acting related skills (eg. singing range, dance training, accents, juggling) and any training youve completed.

Um, the last time I took an audition class through the Hale Centre Theatre in Salt Lake City, Utah, I was told that if it has been a REALLY long time since you did anything theatrical, that it was okay to leave the date off, but do make an effort to describe everything in detail. I am in the same boat you are - no real acting for several years but I have been writing plays instead.
