Look in the "Letters to the Editor" section of your newspaper, and they usually will tell you of any ground rules that must be followed, the rest is up to you.

Write it in business format starting with dear sir or mam depending on the editors name. Use many references to the article or genre you are submitting you opinion on and make a clear and decise statement or question.

Example:

Dear Sir,
I have come to notice over the past few weeks you have been down playing the Chargers effectiveness as a defensive team.
When they shut out the Raiders in week one of the season you said that a third rate college team could have done the same. Then the next week after a similiar trampling of the Titans you made this feet out as even less amazing than it actually was, stating that the Titans had no running game. In my opinion they had no running game because the Chargers took it away.
If sir you have a personal issue with theChargers I do not believe you should be reporting on their abilities as a team. There are many Charger fans that read your column. I am one and I would like my teams accomplishments to be published untarnished. Not by a second rate reporter posing as a sports columnist.
Yours Truly,

A True Charger Fan

Use whatever format your teacher asks you to use. For the salutation, just say, "To the Editor:" Then use the usual format for a letter. Good luck!!
