If you're planning on making more than one trip to the US in your lifetime, one of the trips should be to New England in October, since so few places in the world, if any, have as beautiful a showing of "fall foliage". And the weather is normally sunny and crisply cool.
Fly to Boston, spend time there, and then go to Vermont, New Hampshire, and/or Western Massachusetts (Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine are fine too). The beauty of the foliage "peaks" in the Boston area around mid-October, and so it peaks earlier to the North and later to the South.
Boston is a great city and, like any big city, certainly has Nightclubs/Bars/Parties, but it isn't as wild or edgy as New York, Miami, etc. But if you're going for long enough, you can go to New York on the same trip - it's not far at all. (Of course, any time spent in rural New England will be chill time rather than party time, except maybe in one of the "college towns" which have a large student population...)
Hotspots like Vegas, Florida, and California have good weather for most of the year, and at some point you can enjoy them on another visit, but there's nothing like New England in the autumn.

GO to Disney World. They have a great Oktoberfest in Epcot. And you can always go to Pleasure Island for the nightclub/bar scene. And there is usually lots of sun.

I would suggest New York in the Autumn. Weather is still pretty nice, and for parties and bars it's always spot on.
Otherwise, I would go to Vegas, which has nice sunshine and isn't that hot this time of year.

Frost is starting to Show its frosty glow on the windows in the morning. Build a nice fire and sit back with a hot cup of coffee!

I went to New Hampshire for three days and then seven days in New York - the Fall leaves were amazing and we visited some amazing bars in Hanover - when the world series was on when the Boston team won. Seven days in New York exhausted me but it made me feel alive - I am torn between wanting to go back and never wanting to ruin the memory.
