NO. He called you honkey, thus saying: "hey, I'm open to racial sluring."
Tell HR that you thought it was all good since he started with the racial name calling. Perhaps it should not be allowed for ANY worker to use them and if you get fired, your black co worker should get fired too.

Sounds like "reverse" discrimination to me. Even though I believe discrimination is the same in any culture. I wonder if he would have been called to the "carpet", if you had hit HR before he did, complaining that he called you a "cracker"! I doubt it! Sounds like the co-workers in this company should stick to being professional and leave the after work "grab a beer" out of the picture.

Unfortunately, you will be asked by your HR Representative in a phone interview whether you said N**ga or not and you will respond by saying yes.
Case closed. Be sure to tell your side of the story, though. Explain whether you've had a history of joking in this manner with the aforementioned coworker.

Be sure that if you are fired, that you call the HR department on holding up a double standard at work. If you get fired for n***a, then someone else should get fired for cra**a. The rules have to apply fairly to all people, or they;'re not really "rules".

No, I dont think they should be able to fire you. I think if that guy doesnt like to be called the N word, he shouldnt be making any racial slurs himself.
However, if something like this every happens again, it is probably best to hold your tounge, bite if you have to. It would have been best to just simply say to him "Dont call me that, I think it is disgusting, How would you feel if I referred to you as a N**ga"?
But what is done is done. I would, if I were you, present myself to HR, clarify the situation and explain it as a poor way of dealing with being referred to as a racial slur, offer and apology and explain it will never happen again.
Good luck!

Ofcourse not .
If you have called him ****** without any other thing I would have told you yes , but you responded to "Cracker" so if any body should be fired it is both of you not just one.If not it is discrimination against you to be fired .
But dear freind always try to be respectful of others no matter what. Because by your respectful manner others will learn how to address you or any body else.

Actually if both if you were using racial slurs at work, then you both should have the same punishment.
If you are the only one that is fired, please hire a lawyer and take this to civil court sue over favoritism or something like that.
Hope you (are the only one to) get fired dude, you should be able to make LOTS of money off that one!

You shouldn't be fired, but either way you should learn a lesson from this. Doesn't matter if someone does something wrong. If you also do something wrong, then you will be held accountable. It is especially true for things in writing like emails.

Either you should both be fired or neither of you should. Although I have to say that you should not have responded like that, I don't think it's enough to get you fired (let along firing you without firing him) unless you have a history of saying things like that.

This is just the same as what happened to my daughter, a girl at school called her a marshmallow, so she said " well your a burnt marshmallow" and suddenly my daughter is racist! I think the race card is overplayed. We all have equal rights, and I think the race card should be ripped up and thrown away. I don't think you should be fired, I think you were set up by a person who plays the race card to get what they want they bend it to fit their needs and to gain from it!
