Your MSN list will be saved automatically (it's always saved), but your music and stuff can be saved by backing it up to an off-computer location. If you have any blank discs (or DVDs), you can backup songs and stuff onto that and then reload them later

You cannot format your hard drive without losing ALL data on it. The only thing you can do is transfer it somewhere else for the time being.
You will need one of the following: a CD or DVD Burner, another computer to network with, any kind of external hard drive, usb drive, or basically any kind of removable storage with enough space to fit all of your stuff on.
You will have to find and copy all your files to whatever type of storage medium you chose, then do your formatting, reinstalling, and everything.
Then transfer it all back, but BE CAREFUL because if you have virus problems it is possible that there might be a virus in one of your files, and your whole formatting adventure would be rendered pointless.

FIRST you must determine what viruses you have AND what is effected.
Some files can be cleansed BUT others may be lost forever.
That is why making 'backups' to disc is recommended.
A clean machine making clean backups... so when a virus strikes
you'll hase 'secure' backups.
'Hard' disc copies that cannot be amended. Other forms of media storage can result in the viruses destroying that as well.
Good luck.

depends on virus but you would need to have a big enough drive or storage medium to hold all that you want to save if you do then open a window for empty storage medium and one that contains all files you want to save and drag them all to the empty window and close and remove drive medium then go to bootdisk.com and download a bootdisk for windows 98 any will do they have a program for deleting all hard drive info called format you can also try reinstalling your os from dos mode by restarting pc and hitting delete before first screen goes away once you have the bios open find spot to change the boot order have pc boot from cd drive and exit the bios and save settings then insert thewindows operating system cd in your cd drive when asked to hit key to boot from cd do it then follow instuction to remove partitions and reinstall window they install will resetup partitions and format your drive before installing windows destroying the virus and cleaning out computer hope this helps

first off...stop what u are doing...u do not have to reformat the computer because of a virus...that is easy to solve...first off..go to start..control panel..folder options...when u get new window..click view..then half way down u will see" do not show hidden files and folders" u need to change it to "" show hidden files and folders"' then press apply..then press ok..it will close....now go to start..all programs..system tools..disc clean up..analyze c ( most likely)..then press ok....u will see a list of options that can be checked to free up space..check them all press ok...when it has finished..it will disappear....now go to start..run..type in ...prefetch....u will see a window open with temp files...go to edit ( top left corner)..select all..press delete....yes delete all....next step...go to superantispyware.com and download the free home version of superantispyware...once u download and install that....open it up and click scan my computer...click full or complete system scan..press next...remove whatever it finds.....also one other excellent spyware program is ewido antispyware....it is available for free from grisoft.com
just in-case u are not using a virus scanner..avg is also from grisoft.com...it is also a excellent antivirus scanner...( do not use more then 1 antivirus....do not use more then 1 firewall )
after u have ran a scan and eliminated all threats..go back to folder options..view..restore to default..apply..ok..close it
