My parents grounded me.....but they didn't use days or weeks... One time I was grounded for the entire month of June and July..... Its my smart mouth....

When I was old enough to take a spanking yet young enough that I couldn't reason my way out of a spanking, my siblings and i got walloped on the butt with a bamboo stick (about 3ft long 2in wide and ¼in thick).
Mom was the one who always served it out along with repeated questions of 'why did you do that?' or 'didn't i tell you...?' or 'will you ever learn?' (i was hard headed)--the anticipation to the spanking was excruciating. What followed after the spanking (we get between 1 - 5 spanks depending on the 'form of defiance')was more lessons on what and what not to do, and a reassurance that it was for our own good and we were loved (I say we, because my sisters and i annoyed her as a team effort hehe).
I never resented my mom for ANY of those spanking sessions--she was always clearly right, and i was always guilty. But this doesn't make me want to 'punish' my kids (if i ever have 'em) the same way. I'm not saying that what she did was wrong, but we've learned better ways to discipline kids today without getting physical or causing them mental anguish.

.I only got punished one time in my life (seriously). It was after my freshman year in college. When I got home for the summer, my parents announced that I was going to spend the summer in my home town, get a job and go back through every months' bank statements and calculate what I had spent unnecessarily that year. Then they announced that I could either go back to college and be responsible or I had to come live at home.....that I wasn't old enough to be on my own. Best punishment ever as I certainly didn't want to live at home!!!!!!!!!!!

My Dad would whip me with his belt doubled,I rarely got a whipping from my Dad. I can remember everyone of the whippings I got from my Dad and I don't need a whole hand to count them on either. There was one I especially remember I ran from him. He didn't chase after me either. I finally went home and I got a double whipping for running. I remember my Dad told me "I am not going to chase you down because you have to come home sometime." He was right too! I deserved my whipping for what I done was wrong.
My grandmother would use a switch. One of those thin ones. The kind that when you got a lick the tip would be the same as whip. They would leave those red whelp marks on your legs if you where not wearing long pants.God rest her soul, for if it weren't for her I would have had to experience my Dad's belt more than I did. What a wonderful woman she was!

When I was little, I got spankings. There wasn't such a thing as "Time Out". We either did as we were asked or told or we got a spanking. As I grew up, I got the sterile grounding. It really never worked. These days...my kids get "Time Out". I've never spanked my children.

I was raised in the days when spanking was still used often so I got my share of spankings and got grounded more than I want to remember.

My parents used to spank me with a belt, but as I got older (13 years on up) they started taking privileges away and that was worse!
-Privileges included not going out to play, staying in on Friday and Saturday nights, no phone use!

When I was little they either spanked me on the butt or put me in the "naughty chair", then when i got olderthey would take away phone or computer privilages or id get grounded. Loosing the computer or phone was the worst.

I was a pretty good kid, so I didn't get punished much. I remember getting a couple spankings, but usually the worst punishment was the guilt trips I got....man....

Never punished for anything by parents in childhood, but loved always, every demands met, all wish fulfilled, but thereafter, once they'R no more, I realises that 'm punished by self & by all.
