Tales of the Unexpected, I remember watching it when I was younger. You never forget the tune or the dancing silhouettes of naked ladies, they go hand in hand. It was a great theme tune.

It's gotta be the Rockford Files, surely. Kinda funky & catchy. I'm sure it was written by Mike Post, who seemed to do lots of other theme tunes for American TV shows like Hill Street Blues, the A-Team & Magnum PI. Doctor Who is a bit geeky and Tales Of The Unexpected is a bit camp, though I did like the sillhouette of the dancing (naked?) lady!

I think Doctor Who its one of those tunes that is instantly recognisable to everyone of most ages, where Tales of the Unexpected was good i don't think a lot of youngsters would recognise it.But i t was a great tune, Stand naked in front of a fire and wibble wobble to the theme you know you want to.

Incidentally the Theme for doctor Who and Tales of the Unexpected both came from the late Ron Grainer, which is probably why they are both so great

Dr Who, no contest! The Tales of the Unexpected theme tune is a close second but I find it a lot creepier for some reason.

They are all good tunes written by great people. I love tales of the unexpected as it’s a really nice tune.
Doctor who is just synthesized music and has that scary sound to it, but its good and has had loads of cover versions of it.
Rockford files were a really happy tune with a really good catchy melody and a brilliant James Gardner playing a great role.
There are all great!!!!!!

doctor who wins hands down.
it doesnt matter how old you are, you can always get a shiver down your spine listening to the theme music.
i know it has changed slightly since it began in black and white days, but it always brings a smile to my face that i was encouraged to sit and be scared every saturday evening - and that was befor the generation game was on.

tales of the unexpected was for a select few that were either old enough to be awake and watch it or have sky to watch the reruns - anyway i agree with avondrow, that woman dancing seductively..... wow.
as for rockford... i was never into american shows, until knightrider, streethawk, a-team, battlestar gallactica, etc came along.
