I have a bunch of pics on my computer and that hard drive has gone bad. That is what they told me. So I am getting another one, is there any way of getting the pics off the old one? And it wont cost a lot of money?

Laptop hard drive?...easy....get an external bay USB for the drive...less than 40bucks.... put the old drive in, usb to annother working system, and it will work like a memory stick. Chances are your boost sector is messed up....I have recovered many this way.

Desktop?....same, but the bay will cost a bit more

This accesses the drive but not the boot sector, just the file system. If the drive had a hard failure, like a power spike or a electronic componet failure, this may not work.

Most likely you had an operating system failure or the NTLDR failed. The method above will allow you acces for these problems.

depends. sometimes some software utils can find the inodes, but you will have to go through and recreate the filenames and what not. sometimes it requires data recovery, which is expensive. chances are, its probably not worth the time to mess with it.
