Sometimes it is a social worker. It could also be a counselor who is like a case manager.

Sometimes it is someone who is helping kids who need extra help by being a role model. Sometimes kids will qualify if they come from a single parent home or low income.

Is this a service that the school is providing? I would want to know why they think that my child needs special services. Sometimes it is apparent; if you know he is having difficulty with something. If it is not apparent to you then I would ask questions. See how this will benefit him.
