Do I know who it belongs too? Can it be traced back to the owner? How can I use it? Can it be traced back to me if I use it? Where did I find it? Is there a place where I found it that the owner would look for it?

I'd try to do the right thing to get it back to the rightful owner, failing being able to do that I would instill devine law that possession is ownership.

No, because it probably means more than you know to the person who lost it. If I lost something like that, I would hope it was returned to me. That could be heart breaking for someone. That's just mean and heartless if the person kept it. Hope they can live with that on their conscience.

No, I would not. I would make an honest attempt to find the owners (i.e. police, flyers, etc.). After that I would take it and give a portion or the whole item to charity.

But what if somebody wanted you to find it? That is why I don't like secret admirers, because if you don't know that it is a gift, then how can you keep it?

God wants you to find it and he wants you to keep it. Too bad for the careless individual who lost it. Be more careful people.

let it ride for a while...if no one questions it, your the new proud owner...the minute you open your mout and say that you found something and what it is, (even if you don't) there will always be someone screaming, "that's mine"

Yep.

Unless I knew who it belonged to, in which case I'd give it back.

If I knew who lost it, then I would return it. Otherwise, despite what my mother taught me, I would take it.
