star wars was the very first film i saw at the pictures - when i was just 7.
the story seemed to make perfect sense to me then.

now that all 6 filmes have been made - we realise that it was not a trilogy about lukes gaining of the force, but in fact a 6 part story about how a young boy can start out as an idealist, willing to help out anyone who needs help - and asking for nothing in return, and then grow up and turn into the coolest villain ever created.
there is a hint of religion - catholic shurch - in the movies, a child born even though the was no-one to father the baby, beliefs that there is a 'force' able to help control the balance of life, etc...

to me it made more sense that the ending of the matrix trilogy ... lol
:-)

Uh, no. I was about 7 years old when the movie came out and just as many girls loved Star Wars as boys. The original series was about the classic fight between good and evil and swashbuckling action and romance and soaring off into the stars in search of adventure. And it also had a big fuzzy wookie, C-3PO wore gold lame', and there were muppets. Girls love that stuff just as much as boys. The only people I know who enjoy foreign films are gay men.

I'm a female and I understand them and think they are just harmless fun and great escapism, people take them far too seriously, people will still be watching them years from now as they are timeless, sure some of the special effects are dated but thats part of the appeal, we were made to watch them at college as part of our media course and yes there are alot of hidden meanings, signs and connotations in the film, our lecturer certainly thinks so, personally I think they are just great entertainment.

Creating a myth for new generations on the only mysterious place left to have it: the space. By the way, I'm a girl and I LOVE Star Wars. I also got the whole story, you just have to watch it not thinking about anything, it really isn't that complicated.

They were made for entertainment. Some women like them, some don't. They're not too hard to understand...they deal with universal themes like the fight for freedom, a boy growing to be a man (or, in this case, a farmer growing to be a Jedi), dealing with unpleasant truths about your family and how people will go to great lengths to help/save family members, how someone can go from being entirely selfish to believing in a cause greater than himself, and of course the triumph of good over evil.

The same as any movie, make money and entertain people. And star wars has done both. It is the best movie ever (in my opinion) and has made more money than any other movie. And I do not several girls who like star wars

Dealing in mythology, it shows how you can rise to greatness. The path is not easy and there are challenges along the way, and you can lose heart and hope, but goodness will triumph in the end.

My wife had no troubles in understanding it.

I know plenty of women who like them.

They were simply westerns set in outter space in the future. George Lucas has said as much.

However, I see lots of metaphors concerning power, conformity, and rebellion - that's not so hard for women to see, is it?

No they were made for women. If ever you need some quality me time, a hot bath, glass of wine, candles and peace, you just stick the dvd on and you're guaranteed enough time to fully mosturise as well.

I actually thought the same thing when I see soap operas on the TV for women

Is this why over half of the female race live in a fantasy world?!!
