I'm seeing that overpopulation is stated as a big reasoning for hunting, yet there aren't hunters to handle all of the hunger and death that comes from the overpopulation in Asia, or Africa. Therefore perhaps a "Feed the Animals" campaign, similar to the Feed the Children campaign may work to fix the problem instead. This can be done by growing more vegetation that deer and other "game" like to eat in their natural environment. If one disagree's perhaps overpopulation isn't the real reasoning behind hunting after all. It takes more grain and vegetation to feed all of those animals than if one took all of that grain and vegatation and fed them directly to the people themselves. So feeding people meat would be irrelevant as compared to feeding them grain and vegetation. Food is food, they wouldn't complain. I personally don't see a need for hunting. Companies like "Boca" and "Garden Burger" make patties that are so similar to meat and chicken that real meat wouldn't be necessary at all.

Animals and humans aren't so different. Scientifically humans are in the Animal Kingdom. Humans have logic, and therefore rights because of our ability to choose our actions and so on. But just because animals don't have innate logic for their decisions, doesn't mean that they aren't aware of their own well-being or feel pain. They want what we want. They want to live happy, healthy, painfree lives like the rest of us. What if we walked out to get the paper one morning only to be shot in the heart, and die while trying to crawl back to our homes to see our children one last time, just to have a few grizzly Blood thirsty gun fanatics run up to our carcass and contort our necks so that our bloody eyed, drooling face, & demented expression could be caught on camera as their prize. If you could capture what animals have to go through on a regular basis due to lack of logic it'd be captured in a horror film. Think. Why doesn't anyone like watching those PETA videos? Really think about it.

I really oppose hunting for sport, and I can find no excuse for it. In UK, country folk say that us townies 'don't understand the ways of the countryside'. That may be so, but I DO understand cruelty and bullying. If you need to survive, say like a lion or a tribal person, then fair enough, but there's no need to breed dogs for it and to 'blood' your children after terrorising a single fox, is there?

Don't knock what you don't know anything about. People hunt with bows, rifles and black powder; from tree stands, blinds and from the ground. It isn't easy - not like the deer just walk out there and say come and get me. Hunting is just that; knowing the environment, knowing the signs and tracking the prey. Hunters support environmental initiatives that everyone can enjoy by raising billions (yes, with a "b") over the years through the purchase of licenses, stamps and, yes, charity. Did you ever see a starving deer because it's range is overpopulated and there isn't enough food? Hunters also cull the herd and ensure future generations of wildlife. (Everybody loves Bambi until it comes into their yard and eats their ornamentals because there's no food in the wild to support them). By the way, hunters also donate tons of meat to food banks for the needy.
By the way, every state in the Union controls the number of animals that can be harvested (I know the antis will love that word). This year in NY State, for example, half the State is closed for hunting Does as it was last year. This ain't a slaughter, honey, it's a well managed sport enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of people.

My boyfriend's family is completely into that...I'm very much an urban type of person, so I don't understand the pleasure that comes out of it at all.
However, I do believe that in some cases it does wonders for overpopulation...and they've never shot anybody in the face, so as long as they keep their creepy deer heads and whatever other stuffed dead animals away from me, I think it's fine.

The Inuit and similar aboriginals who live in remote areas hunt to survive and maintain their culture, and they use every part of the animal or fish for some useful purpose. As unpleasant as it may be to see any creature killed, that's about as good as hunting can get.

They do a much needed service by keeping animal populations in check. In my area, we have way too many deer, and nothing to eat them. The hunters keep their populations down so that there aren't deer everywhere running in front of cars and killing people. That does happen, but the hunters help it happen less.

yes, it always disturbs me when the lion or crocodile eats the innocent gazelle or wildebeast in the National Geographic films.
They should know that there is enough grass and shrubs to go around for everyone. Let us convert them first as an example to us less developed species. Let the carnivores convert to vegetarians as an example to us all.

I do not like the idea of hunting for sport. If you are going to go into the wilds with your bow and arrow and a tent and hunt to feed yourself that is somewhat acceptable. Going out hunting with a high powered rifle ,scopes, and all that tech stuff is not hunting.

Me being one. As long as they are honest and don't get gun crazy and shoot everything in sight, like signs or animals. God gave us animals to eat and get our nutrition whether you get it from the store or you choose to go out and get it yourself shouldn't matter as long as we don't it in a dishonest way. An animal that gets killed in a slauter house isn't any more ethical or honest then doing it out in a forest or field. If it weren't for hunters we would have an excess amount of animals running around and too much of them can start diseases. They teach people that sort of thing in hunter safety course, which every hunter should do.

as long as they kill what they eat fine but if they are killing just for sport then they need to be hunted and shot for sport. IN some areas of our country people still eat what theykill, they have to to survive

If it weren't for hunters we would have an over population of animals which would result in a spread of diseases and animals starving and dying in a much crueler and slower way than that of being shot in the head.
