You can use your cards in most places (Maestro, Mastercard, Visa, Amex are the most frequent ones, and are accepted widely). There are a lot of ATMs round the city. But of course you will need some cash because you cannot use your cards everywhere.
In most places you will find difficulty if you want to use euros in shops. But you can exchange them in quite a lot of places.

Take Forints.
But be warned, a lot of Forint is worth little, so you'll be carrying a lot of cash with you.
And watch out for the rioters. They seem very pissed off.
