First you must file a Claim for Divorce. (This is basically a document that says you want a divorce, why you want the divorce, if there is property to be divided and if you and your spouse can make a property settlement agreement or if you need a judge to divide the property for you. It also states whether or not you have children or if any other children are expected and how you personally believe custody, visitation and child support should be set.)
After the claim is filed, it is taken by a process server to your spouse. Your spouse will look at the papers and decide if he/she agrees with what the claim says. If so, your attorney can then proceed with the divorce and it should take about 30 - 60 days. If he/she does not agree, he/she will file a counterclaim for divorce stating their side of the story, so to speak. If this happens, the matter may still be resolved within that timeframe, but usually it takes longer since the Court must take actions such as setting hearings to decide property settlement and custody/visitation/support issues.

It took my parents 3 years for the divorce to be finallized. Yet if both parties agree on who gets what and how much, and custody of children is settled (If it applies) then it shouldn't take more than 6 months to a year. The deciding factor will be if both parties agree to all the terms of the divorce. Hope this info helps.

depends how much money you have to pay the lawyers, if there's enough money they'll get around the system and you can be divorced within 6 months of seperation. Otherwise, stand in queue with the usual two year seperation and another year for the paperwork to complete the divorce.

The laws are different in every state. You will have to check the laws for the state that you live in. I live in Maryland and we had to live separate and a part for year and then you file for the absolute divorce and then it took about 90 days for me to received my final divorce decree. Good luck.

Depends on how difficult each party makes it and what state you are in. California's law is 6 months from start to finish.

It depends upon whether or not you're going through mediation or not... is it amicable? Are you fighting over who gets what?? Depends... but from my understanding it's somewhere around 6 months (depending upon where you live).
