how do I use a gammet?

I drilled a hole in the side of a cabinet for the cords from the t.v., but do I put both pieces of the gammet on the same side, or one piece on each side?

Both pieces of the grommet should be on the same side, one piece insets into the other.

Did you mean a grommet? If so, there should be one piece on each side.
