Bajaj Pulsar - for looks and to save maintenance cost.
Hero Honda CBZ - for comfortable ride and looks.
TVS Apache - for comfort, fashion and economy.
Please note that all 150 cc range bikes are not economical. 150 cc bikes are for looks and power.
125 cc
Any bike (except bajaj) in this category will give you a combination of economy, low cost maintenance and comfort.
Bajaj bikes in this category are not at all comfortable.

There is no best bike as such.
The bike reflects your personality. Suddenly John Abraham became popular with Suzuki's 1300 CC Hayabusa.

The faviorite of young generation who loved 'power to zoom', It used to be Yamaha RX in late 1980s and early 90s, for its pickup.
Bajaj Pulsar seems to be the most popular bike for the college students and the younger generation.
Hero Honda has good lot of range and they are soft on your purse and more popular in north india as well as for the people who want economy as their prime requirement. TVS is a good bike, more traditionally popular in South India.

Go for Pulsar, if you want riding comfort.
Hero Honda's Karizma (133 cc) is great if you can spend more for the power.

Else Hero Honda Ambition is fine.
