I need to mow my yard and lawn practically every week. However, i'm not alwasys in town to get the things done. Even when i pay someone to come do the cutting, they need to come back practically every week. So, my question, is there a way to stop grass from growing so fast? I live in florida, and with all the rain, my grass has been growing at least two to three inches a week. I remember when i lived up north in SC, i only had to cut the grass about once a month or so. The climate is pretty much teh same with only an increase in rain this year. Any suggestions anyone?

I had a similar problem over here in the UK. My neighbours grass grew slower than mine and when I enquired I learnt it had something to do with aeration, microbiology, critters and fertilizer.

If you have worms in your lawn then they are aerating your lawn helping it grow quicker. Also it sounds like your lawn is well fertilized and at an optimon for grass growth. I know a sandy soil will grow grass better than a clay rich soil too.

These all might be factors.

I'd ask for something at the garden centre to slow down the growth or call in a proffesional for his opinion on your soil conditions.

(PS. To save cutting the grass buy a goat or a sheep)

(PPS. Sorry for the humour injection, it was needed)

What the heck are you talking about? Once a month in South Carolina- did you let it turn into a prairie before you cut it? In Ohio, Im cutting my grass once a week or so (as long as there as been rain). So what you are describing is definately not a northern thing. Its very, very common to cut your grass 1 time per week. My only suggestion to you is grass killer.

i had this problem myself and the only possible solution i can think of is to turn the grass over every 2 or 3 weeks this will slow it down and keep you fit at the same time

I was going to say, stop watering it, but you don't have a choice. I do not have any suggestions, except to either cut it really low, so that it takes awhile to grow back, or just keep water from it.

Other than killing it? Have no clue. Perhaps getting a slower growing grass type? Have you tried your local Nursery? They might know some tricks.

The only way would be to limit the water intake and sun. sorry.
