Because the purpose of the government is not to provide free "stuff" to people. Since you are clearly enlightened and not to be put in the same category as the hillbillies and others you so brilliantly described, I'm shocked that you don't apparently make enough money to buy your own health care if you want it or send your kids to private school if you chose.
Section 8 of Article 1 of the US constitution makes clear what the federal responsibility is;
" The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States"
The problem is that lazy socialist have bastardized the two word "general welfare" to mean ANYthing they want. Of course most "normal" people recognize it easily as the general welfare of the country rather than individuals.
get an education, get a job, live your life, quit pestering the rest of us to give you money.
EXTRA:
Just thought you all may find interesting the level of intellect behind the poster. I just received his kind email based on my post---it is as follows;
"You have received a message from another user!
From: Mario D
Subject: CONSERVATIVE SHHIIT HEAD
Message: YO DUDE SUK MY DIK BIITCCH"
Doesn't it pretty much speak for itself?? And THIS is the guy refering to hillbillys......................
And to Rolo----please tell us which government program was better run and more cost efficient than a private sector program/business? And you want to hand over 1/4 of our economy (healthcare) to the government to run with the argument that it would be better and cheaper?????
As long as your answering that one, maybe you could tell us all what country people seek out to get the best health care----I'm pretty sure it's the US so Im quite confused when you preach that we have the worst.

Not only would we all be better off if the public education system were improved, and health insurance was mandated for everyone, we would also save a lot of money too. A lot of people who send their kids to private schools would much rather send them to good public schools if they were available. And as for the health care system, this country spends more on health care than almost every other advanced country and gets more worse care. That is because our system of mostly private insurance is so inefficient and wasteful. These are simply facts, but a lot of people, like those who have answered your question in a hostile manner, do not want to look at the facts because they are blinded by free market ideology. And that is why we do not have a better public education and health care system, because we are blind.

DUH!!! Where is the government going to get the money to provide "Free" education and health care for everyone? Tax us MORE!!!
No thanks, if anything, i wish that the government would get out of the health care business and close down the Dept of MIs-Education...Where in the Constitution does it say that these should be government provided benefits? I dont want to be just like France or Sweden or Canada...enough is enough!
