movie question...will be tough.because i must explain in few words?

i need to find this movie:(an oldie...possibly 1970's. I know most you weren't even born then, ha ok, help if you can:Scenario is:
1-husband wife back in 1950's maybe? dont know setting of movie time
2-husband has accident, cannot remmeber how
3-wife thinks he is dead,years pass,she meets someone and boom,
they marry (I may be wrong)
4-however, the original husband in accident..is NOT dead. Instead...
he is horribly disfigured and actually has lived in same little town as
his wife/ former wife, without her every knowing it,even though she
probably passed him by in the streets and didnt' recognize
5-something horrible is about to happen because the new hubby, or
boyfriend? is going to kill/or become violent towars the woman
6-ex husband, disfigured one, saves the day, some how...either kills
hurts,beats the living hell out of???? new hubby.
7-only then does the wife realize that her original hubby was never dead
8-sadly original husband dies from the fight.

I love this movie! It's called Raggedy Man and stars Sissy Spacek as the mother, Eric Roberts as the boyfriend, Henry Thomas as Harry, eldest son, and Sam Shepherd as the father/husband.

Movie takes place in some really small town in Texas.
Husband went off to war and wife thinks he's been killed but in actuality he's been horribly disfigured and roams around town as local bum, (Raggedy Man).
Eric Roberts plays a sailor on leave who befriends the boys and their mother, falling for the mother. People in town are talking about how unfit mother (Sissy Spacek) is having a man (younger than her) sleeping at her house so she gives into pressure and tells him to leave. Local thugs also thinking she's "easy" since she had this man staying with her, try to attack her after the sailor has left, but the husband, Raggedy Man, comes to her rescue, killing both men before they do any real harm, but he winds up dying from his wounds and she realizes that it is her husband and that he's been watching and protecting them all along.
