My baby who is now almost 3 weeks old. Everytime I feed her. When I burp her she spits up. Just a little bit. But sometimes the spitup just comes out of her nose(at least once a day) when she spits up though it comes out of the nose daily. Is this normal? Just wondering if other mothers have this happen to them. Worried because older son had a cleft palate?

NO it is not normal + it is very dangerous if food/liquid stays in the nose or is breathed back immediately.
Go to see pediatrician ASAP. How come you waited for 3 months to ask him the question if this happens once a day?
Cheers,

I would think that if your baby had a cleft palate they would have caught it in the hospital... they do pretty comprehensive tests there, and if not, your pediatrician would most likely have caught it too..
It could be that your baby is just spitting up more than her mouth can handle, therefore it is coming out of her nose a bit too. I wouldn't worry too much, but listen to make sure that she doesn't aspirate any of the spit-up, and I would most definately mention it to her pediatrician the next time you go.

First of all, don't change her formula until after you see a doctor. Ask the doctor about a drug called Reglan. My son has feeding issues due to being a preemie and Reglan in the right doses completely cuts out the spitup. Sooooo much less laundry since the Reglan! lol
Soy formulas have been linked to early puberty in girls, in some studies, so I wouldn't use soy formula unless absolutly nessicary.

Both my babys have been very very sick after every feed all though not through the nose. I have told health visitors about they sickness and they are not concerned as the weight gain is still good. My 13 week baby has 5 feeds of 6oz and must bring at least 2-3oz back up but has doubled in weight since birth.
as long as the weight gain is good it dosent matter but i would speek to your health visitor asap if you are concirend you can ring and leave a message whenever you need them.

Their stomach's are very tiny, and they don't have the most developped instinct to be able to say they are full and she might just be drinking a little too much. If it's not projectile, then it's absolutely normal, their little flap (gag reflex stopper, yes that's my medical term..hehe) is not developped yet, so they are not able to stop the overflow when they burp, so they spit up a little bit. If you are worried, have her checked out.

Are you formula or breast feeding? Formula feeding, try a Soy formula.
Is this spit up or throwing up like a whole bottle? If its a whole bottle, and not curdled up like cottage cheese(that's spit up) then it's projectile vomiting. My daughter had projectile vomiting up until 12 weeks of age.

Try changing the formula. I recomend an organic soy formula. Try to stay away from the regular formula, because there is bad things in it.
