It never hurts to play it safe and talk with your doctor or call their office and speak to the nurse. But I am now on my third pregnancy and I have experience at some time or another sharp pains in my sides, back, lower abdominal muscles and in places I didn't know I could experience pain. Your body is stretching, internal organs are being pushed aside so that you can accommodate this new life growing in you, you are going to feel lots of odd pains. Enjoy your pregnancy and as always when in doubt call your doctor that is what they are there for.

If you feel continuous cramping at regular intervals, pressure pushing downward on you cervix or any bleeding be sure to call your doctor immediately.

It depends on where the pain is exactly occurring and how far along you are.

Beginning around the start of the 2nd trimester you can get sharp pains in the right or left side of your lower abdomen that are called Round Ligament pains and these ARE the stretching of ligaments, making way for the growing uterus/baby etc. They usually occur when you cough, sneeze, stand suddenly, make sudden turns etc and subside within a few seconds to a few minutes. If they linger, go to the doctor.

If it is higher up on your abdomen or actually in your side, I would go have it checked out by a doctor because it could be something much more serious that is not pregnancy related.

I am currently pregnant. I just started feeling pain on my sides. Just to be on the safe side take a trip to the dr's office or go to the emergency room. They will let u know if everything is alright. That way if it happens again then u know what it is.

When I was pregnant I had pains in my sides too. The doctor said it was just the muscles stretching and it was nothing to worry about. You should give your doctor a call just in case he might want to see you.

I had pains in my lower right side off and on throughout my pregnancy. I was told it was just ligament damage but, finally they got so bad I went into the hospital in an ambulance and it just so happened my regular Dr. was on vacation so his partner was my Dr. and guess what? Within 4 hours I gave birth to a 2 month premature baby and a perforated appendix.

I get pains on my lower abdomen at the right hand side when I walk anywhere. I am 23 weeks pregnant. It's perfectly normal though, it's just your ligaments and muscles stretching :).

I had pains in places I didn't know you could get pains! As always, though, if you're concerned, it's a good idea to tell your doctor. It may be nothing but it's always better to be safe than sorry!

Good luck and congratulations!

I get that sort of pain, but on my left side, and only when i'm walking for a long period of time. My OB says it's from the walking. I'm 37.3 weeks. I would mention it to your DR just to be sure. Good Luck!

well if you have pains on left side as well it could be ectopic (tubal) but please understand that you will be experiencing pains every where ,MUSCELS =your babies a lil vampire & takes all your nutrition so eat healthy as possible ,also sciatic nerve ,in 3rd trimester my larynex (i think) chest breathing was hard due to him pressing against it ,my rib cage felt sharp pains iwould have 2 adjust my body 2 eaze pain ,also im going through ectopic preg. w/ twins and believe me ectopic pregnancy is pains that r sohorrific but u have them on both sides at same time and bleed a lil my preg. will have 2 be terminated since ectopic babies can not survive and eventually fallopian tubes erupt causing possible death ,you r probally a 1st time mommy & you r going through the norm good luck ,take your vitamins ,see ur obgyn congrats momma sincerly, alicia aka luisa d.
