The syllables most often used in solfege come from medieval Europe. Monks used them to teach other monks the tunes.

The actual syllables come from a Gregorian chant which started phrases on those notes with words using those syllables. The first note of the chant was a C (or what passed for one then) and the word started with "Do." Second phrase, D, began with the syllable "Re." Etc. Etc....

I wish I could remember the words for that chant, but it's been way too many years since Medieval music history class!

Because the music scale starts with
C,D,E,F,G,A,B; hence,
do, re, me fa, so, la te, then back to do which is probably c. So, there are only 7 notes on the music scale until you use sharps and flats, major and minor keys. Hope I helped.

Because these were exercises created for vocalists to warm up with, and it effectively covers all the vowel sounds and the most common consonant sounds. It works the mouth and vocal chords better than other letters.

You can say any letters you want. Do, re, me... is easy to sing. It's a famous song from The Sound of Music.

Nothing happens use any words you want as long as the pitch follows suite.do, re ,me is just the norm and it aids in keeping it a universal language.
