The best music was made between the years 1760 and 1827.
As far as pop music I'd say the late 1960's. All the foundations to modern rock, rap and even electronic music were made back then the only thing missing was the computer technology to achieve the desired results. I'm 35.

50's, 60's and 70's because there were new and exciting things happening in music during those periods. In the 50's it was Bill Haley, Elvis, Little Richard, Fats Domino and etc.... In the 60's it was the san francisco bands like The Grateful Dead and Jefferson Aeroplane to name only a couple, and also the british invasion was happening. In the seventies there were alot of great funk and punk bands. The 80's, 90's and 00's started to really just rehash what had been done in the past. I'm 33 so my generation is the eighties, but i don't like much of what was going on at the time. I liked the police but they technically aren't an eighties band, because they were around in the late 70's.

Why? Because there was still some originality to the music. No sampling. MC Hammer really ruined it. He simply stole from Rick James, who did it right the first time.
