I think you partially answered your own question. I just read a newspaper article which stated that up to forty percent of adults in N.A. are functionally illiterate! Amazing stat if true. However, I think the problem at this level is just laziness, and lack of caring (pride?). I notice there is a little spell checker just above this little 'writing box', but I'm sure most people can't be bothered to use it! One even gets a chance to edit one's final answer, so it can't all be explained by clicking 'go' too quickly! My son says only 'old teachers' like myself actually care anyway.
