I found an old blog entry in a google search that confirms there was action taken against this judge in 2004, but the site isn't valid anymore (I searched for judge "wally thompson" investigation) and then looked at the cached page).

I'd try the local papers next - the three listed for Columbia county are:
The Chronicle, St. Helens
The Clatskanie Chief
The South County Spotlight, Scappoose

None of them have their archives online, but you might be able to contact someone at the paper to do a lookup for you or check with a librarian. They may be willing to do lookups too.

Start with your county Bar Association. They'll be in the phone book under "Countyname Bar Association." If it's a teeny county, try by StateName Bar Association."

They will be able to tell you where to look to find out about him, about his decisions and perhaps about any disciplinary actions that have been taken against him.

But a judge, I think, is *expected* to be judgmental! It's kinda the nature of the job, wouldn't you say?
