I'm not planning on introducing any kind of shell fish to my daughter until she's 2+ because of the allergy. But, that's me. If there is no shellfish allergy in your family it's safer. If you really want to give it a go, try it for lunch so if there is a problem you're not running to the emergency room in the middle of the night.

Once children develop food allergies they are many times more likely to develop more as they grow older, some of which can become so severe as to put a person into anaphylactic shock and cause death. Is it worth the risk? Ask your Dr. for a list of foods that you should avoid giving to children under 2. I followed one carefully and now that my children are 5 & 8 they still have not developed one food allergy even though their father has so many I can't count them all (he also has asthma and exzema, which we have found seems to get much worse when he eats alot of sugar)

You might want to be concerned if shellfish allergies run in your family or your husband's family. Otherwise, I'd just make sure the pieces in the chowder are small enough to not be a choking hazard.

Should be fine. Just watch carefully while they eat it for the first time in case of allergies. My son is almost 14 months and it has been his favorite food since trying it at 11 months.

Yes, as long as there are not shellfish allergies in your family. My son's doc told me to wait until 15 months to give my son any type of seafood, and he does really well with it. He loves just about any type of fish.

I wouldn't risk it. If you are going to try, make sure it's during the day.
