One would think so. But I used to work for a vet. You would be surprised to know the calls we would get and want to know if they really had to bring the pet in or if there was some other way they could treat them that would be cheaper.
After all these years, I have come to the conclusion that if you can't afford the food, toys, various other items needed for pet, and vet bills you shouldn't own a pet.
Sometimes I think when they post a question they are seeing it is a serious problem or not. May not have much experience with pets.
There was a question posted on here once about a sick child. The person didn't have the money to take child to doctor...this made me wonder how you can have money for PC and Internet but not for doctor.
Either way pet or child, it is in some form still neglect if treatment is not seeked for serious problems.

Regarding such things as peeing blood: an owner who doesn't go to the vet asap clearly has issues sufficient to warrant that dog being taken away from them.
Other issues, such as walking around in circles, attacking someone without provocation are, almost always, psychological in nature. So, while you can go to the vet to rule out physical causes and perhaps get a reference to an animal psychologist, going to the vet isn't necessarily the most likely avenue for solving the problem. As much as vets like to think they have the answer for all your animals' needs, they rarely know much about fixing psychological problems because those problems are often very complex and they have neither the time nor the training to properly address them.
Thus, for issues like that, and presuming that there is no imminent danger (e.g., someone getting bitten) posting here isn't an unreasonable avenue of exploration, especially if it isn't the only avenue. Here, you might get 15 different answers from "watch The Dog Whisperer" (often a good choice for a problem dog) to "interrupt the pattern as soon as possible" to ... you name it.
This is good because it allows the person presumably the most invested in the dog/cat/whatever to have a number of possible things to try out...and they're the ones who may actually have the time and patience and caring to do so (vs. a vet who might just say "here, give it this supplement; I'll see you in a year.)

I am so sorry, but I have to laugh. I know it is not funny- I am picturing my husband running in endless circles....
YES! common sense seems to be lacking. Maybe they have a vet appointment already- and they want to see if someone else has had a similar problem so they know what to expect??
I shouldn't be second-guessing people. I am a big fan of the vet. Yep, the bills are more than what I want to pay, but it comes with pet ownership. So does he shedding, the smell, the poop, the drool and so on.
No one who reads anything on here about pets should be surprised about normal everyday pet responsibilities.

They don't want to be bothered with taking the dog to the vet or paying for it. And not matter how many people tell them the animal needs a vet they'll choose the answer that gives them some stupid home remedy that will not only work but probably make the dog worse. They don't want the right answer they want the easiest answer even if it's wrong.

People don't want to take the animal to the vet, and they don't want to pay the vet bills. They hope that by posting on here, they'll find a cheap natural remedy that will miraculously cure their puppy/kitten/etc.
I think pets should be treated like family members. Responsible pet owners bring their animals to the vet, just as responsible parents bring their child to the doctor. If you can't afford to care for an animal, find someone who can or better yet....don't get one at all. Yes, it's expensive, but jesus, people...I consider it animal abuse to not seek medical attention for yoru pets.

What a great question....I think people are just trying to save a buck by not taking care of their pet's and posing asinine question's in the hope of getting" free advice". Personally, if my pet tried to attack anyone, I would take them to the vet first to see if there isn't something physically wrong with it, and if there was no justifiable reason, I would'nt hesitate to put them down, no matter how bad it would hurt me, case closed. Unfortunately their are people out there who take on the resposibility of pet ownership, then either get bored with the pet or just don't give a damn and they forget about them....make's you kind of wonder how they would treat their family and friend's huh....hopefully these people do not have children to care for, and thank goodness we have people that will speak up and not sit by and watch any kind of abuse. There are a few good people out there with some good sommon sense, and you sound like one of them.

No, it's not just the pet owners, it's pretty much everybody, i don't think too many people nowadays have walking around sense
i think they have to leave bread crumbs so they can find their way back home, maybe that's why they are all on their cell phones all the time, getting directions!
Regretfully, i think common sense is a thing of the past

OMG I TOTALLLLLY AGREE - I am forever seeing questions on her about their poor pets, and asking what they should do, and 90% of the time they neeeeeeed to go to the vet....
And usually that is what i say... nicely because there are some mean people out here, and you catch more bees with honey, and i usually remind them their pets are members of their family.... BUT sometimes you just have to shake your head!!!
GREAT Q, I am glad you are also concerned
Best of luck =)

Not only is common sense dead among pet owners, my friend, it's dead, period.
Matter of fact it died a while back, you must've missed the funeral.
Common Sense was preceded in death by: his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.
Here's a copy of the obituary:

PS: I totally agree with you.

Maybe they are afraid of the truth. If you really love a pet, you don't want to think they could be very sick and possibly die, but I'm with you, if they are that sick and show those types of symptoms, don't wait, just take them to the vet.
