I am an American who is about 1/3rd German, with a German surname, so I may be biased.
I think uniting the Germanys was the best thing that could have happened to you.
Other than that, you are pretty much a relatively small country which has generated much distrust due to your people fell under the spell of hatred and intolerance from a fanatical madman who had the financial, business and strong arm nationalist backing. Wrapped in a self deluding sense of omnipotence, and with a common enemy, the social nationalist sought to fulfill their destiny to rule the European Continent.
Replace "madman" with Bush, "social nationalist" with Republicans and "European Continent" with World, and you have the post 9/11 USA. Except "our jews" hate "your jews".
I do like beer, kraut and sausage a lot, but that's probably in the genes.

I am of German ancestry and I spent off an on 91/2 years in West Germany during the Cold War while serving with the US Army and I really enjoyed myself there and I miss the good times that I had and the friends that I made. I will say this, Germany has the finest
food, wine and beer in the whole world and the most beautiful scenery ever seen anywhere, except several areas in the USA!!!!!!!! I do not know anyone who thinks
Germans are nazis in this country. I have served in Goeppingen, Ulm, Schwablish Gmund, Heilbronn, Heidleberg, Mannheim, Stuttgart and Nelligen Barracks in Nellingen. Most of these places are now closed, but I still remember the good times at these places.

you met an american guy with a low IQ...
Next time, ask a well traveled American that same question...
1. Germans are highly detailed, methodical people known for craftmanship in everything they do. Hence the the Daimler/ Chrysler commercials which heralds the union of "German Engineering with American Ingenuity".
2. Germans on the whole are too critical of the U.S.
3. Germans are really trying hard at conservation, All over the country there are winmill farms, water conservation efforts, and strict anti pollution policies - bravo to you.
4. Germany may have an alarming trend towards nazism ( I read it's at 10 % ) But there are many more people that are enjoying liberal freedoms, you can see it late night on German TV..lot's of provaucative programming going on.

Not true. Notice how the people that make claims of this nature throw out the non specific words like most, some, few, undisclosed news source and so on. I think you guys made a definite step forward when I look at the results of your last election. Sure, I'm sure you have a small number of Nazis there now. We have a small number here also. See, even I used a non specific number. I mean to say that I do not think there is a sufficient number to be a major threat.

I spent 3 years stationed in Friedberg. I had good experiences over there and left with a good impression of the German people.
For those who call you Nazis, you just have to consider the source. Americans have NO room to talk about any nations past; it's not like we have been angels in this country either.

It's not true. I love the German people. I think the person who said that does not represent Americans. He's an idiot. There is a history that people are very aware of but that does not translate to today's German people. My friend just got back from spending a year there. She had nothing but wonderful things to say about her experiences and the people.

I find Germans very laid back and easy going -- NOT detailed and critical, as most people say (at least the ones I've met). I heard of the nazi activity in Germany, but most Germans I've met didn't seem to have racist tendencies, and many of them were in (or had) interracial relationships.
Sure, racism is everywhere, but based on my experiences and from a Hispanic perspective (myself), Americans seem to have more racist attitudes than Germans.

not true! I loved the few days I spent in Germany. Frankfurt is so clean and organized. Yes, I know , I know it was all rebuilt in the last 50 years, but still I like it. I like the food too; the hot stones are such nice touches. I didn't talk much to people one on one cause there wasn't much time. But the Germans I've met in my hometime were quite friendly.

Don't forget that most Americans are poorly educated about the world around them, so quite often they don't know much, but always have to state their opinion, even if they know nothing about the subject - after all, they're Americans, and they think their opinions are the only ones that matter.
