paedophiles?

Question

Recently there has been a mass witch hunt for paedophiles as parents are worried about their kids being the next victims.

My questions :
(1)is it a disorder or some people are born with a higher propensity to be one?

(2)what causes it?

(3) Would it be a paedophiliac act if a 15 year old dates and sleeps with a 21 year old person?

There are many different theories regarding pedophilia. One theory is that its learnt through pavlovian conditioning. The link attached to this posting explains the process of pavlovian conditioning, and also applies it to deviant sexual desires. In the article is also an open letter to paedophiles written by a psychologist. The article does target other deviant desires as well as paedophilia.

I take that last line to a bit of an insult when posed with this question.....seems like you are associating the LGBT community with pedophiles......Hopefully not, but that is how it reads....

On with an answer, as I will give the benefit of the doubt.

Pedophiles are both born and made....... some are born with the propensity, a need llike a fetish, or anything else you find that you need to be fullfilled. Simple genetic **** we can't predict.

Others are made by experience that causes the behavior to be learned. Victims of abuse, sexual assult etc can go here, but I my opinion the propensity has to be there anyway.

15 and 21......by law in most states, yes. but statutory rape...not necessarily pedophilia ...I am not sure on the age that most states define, but by what I have read, It usually centers on the maturity of the younger and their ability to give INFORMED consent. A consentual relationship while well into statutory rape, would not be a case of pedophilia if the 15 year old was mature acting, and initiated the encounter.....the 21 year old would still be facing sharges, but not as a child mosleter...see the difference?

Pedophilia is a learned sexual aberration in which a person is only interested in children sexually. There is no evidence that it is inherited, but thought to be brought about by child abuse, or a myriad of circumstances in a child's life that lead to adult pedophilia. There is NO know "cure" for the syndrome, and the recidivism rate for those convicted is nearly 100%. To my knowledge, no one is born with the trait. A 15/21 year old does not fall under Pedophilia...illegal, yes, but not pedophilia.
A convicted pedophile can NEVER be trusted to be with or around children, period. Pedophilia is much more common in men than in women, and has no boundaries as to gay or straight. IT runs in these groups about the same as the population of these groups..i.e, about 10 % of pedophiles are Gay, 90% or higher are straight. Regardless of sexual orientation, this is a despicable crime and there are no excuses to unleash society with these criminals by release from prison. Because a convicted pedophile will forever more be a burden upon society, I am not so sure the death sentence should not be applied. More often than not, the child is murdered in an effort to cover up the trail of the criminal.
I have to ask you, WHY did you put this in the Gay section? Since 90+% of pedophila is commited by Straights, why didn't you post this in that section (relationships, etc.)?? Do you think that pedophiles are Gay? They are not. This is an old trick of the religious right wing to make Gays look bad. I certainly hope that was not your intent. Good luck

First, I'm curious why you thought this question belongs in this category. The huge majority of pedophiles are straight white males. I think you need a shrink to explain #1 and #2, but on #3 yes, the 21 year old would be a pedophile - a 15 year old is a child.

1. Pedophilia is a sexual preference, and, like any other, it is not a matter of choice. Childhood experiences may exacerbate it or bring it out at a younger age but the predilection was always there, otherwise the molestation victims who grow up be molesters themselves would not be a clear minority.
2. No one knows what causes it, see my answer to the previous question.
3. Pedophilia is a sexual attraction to pre-pubescent children, an attraction to adolescents is ephebophilia, so no. It would, however, be statutory rape in most states.
4. Considering that over 90% of all child molestation is heterosexual, you posted this question in the wrong forum.

The International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (F65.4) defines pedophilia as "a sexual preference for children, boys or girls or both, usually of prepubertal or early pubertal age." [25]

The APA's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 4th edition, Text Revision gives the following as its "Diagnostic criteria for 302.2 Pedophilia"[26] :

Over a period of at least 6 months, recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving sexual activity with a prepubescent child or children (generally age 13 years or younger).
The person has acted on these urges, or the sexual urges or fantasies cause marked distress or interpersonal difficulty.
The person is at least age 16 years and at least 5 years older than the child or children in Criterion A.
Do not include an individual in late adolescence involved in an ongoing sexual relationship with a 12 or 13-year-old.

#. Yes, the 21 year old would be considered a pedophile and could be charged with statutory rape. A minor cannot give consent for sex.

2. Causes are one of three general directions: either the 'love of children' got connected to the adult's arrousal, or the adult is simply in search of a tight hole when horny, or it is a basic rape scenario of getting his jollies terrorizing the perceived weak or helpless.

The 15-yr old dating the 21-yr old is called statutory rape, even consenting, the pubescent adolescent involved in 'carnal knowledge' with a person 'of age' even though still young, is technically illegal outside of marriage--and some states won't permit marriage even with parental consent for a partner so young.

These questions are irrelavent to the GLBT community as we are NOT paedophiles.

You are in the wrong pew, most cases of pedophilia are committed by heterosexuals. In rural Missouri a minister was recently arrested for molesting girls over number of years.

It seems that gays are considered to only ones who molest children. Lets get facts straight.
