Using all uppercase letters online, or in an e-mail, means you are yelling/screaming at someone. Possible solution: Maybe you can use only lowercase letters.

TYPING IN ALL CAPS IS THE EQUIVALENT OF YELLING AT SOMEONE. Sorry, I'll lower my voice. There, that's better!

The net has rules of etiquette, just like face-to-face social situations do. Some transfer over to the virtual world easily, such as not being outright rude especially with people new to the scene.

Others just don't parse well between the virtual and real worlds. Yelling at someone is one of those things. We needed a way to be able to yell if absolutely necessary, but it's pretty hard to put your actual emotions in writing. So, it was decided by general consensus at the time (probably 20 or so years ago) that typing in all caps would be the net equivalent of yelling at someone. The idea took hold and it is pretty much universally held to be such today.

When posting to a forum, writing an e-mail or whatever, you should do it the same way that you would type it on a piece of paper. Grammar, spelling, sentence structure and proper capitalization all count. It shows that you know the "rules" and abide by them willingly in order to honor an orderly social structure.

It's a lot like wearing a baseball cap to the dinner table. The world certainly will not grind to a halt if you do, but it's just not done in polite society.
