At the center of the circle is eaither a well of a waterhead that feeds a feedr pipe that extands out on a struss with wheels every 20 feet or so. The strip of spray nozzles on the pipe sprays water on the crops as the while thing slowly travels around the central point on those wheels. The result is a very heavy producing circle or crop.

They are caused by tired long-distance truck drivers. They fall asleep at the wheel, then go through the barb-wire fence, and plow into the field of grain. When the engine stalls, the truck stops and the truck driver wakes up. He wonders where he is (it could be any time of day or night) and has to turn his rig around in a big circle until he can find his tracks and get back out onto the highway.

If YOU fell asleep driving like that, would YOU admit it to everybody...? Think about it.

Some of the irrigation systems used travel in a circle around a central pivot. The rows are also laid out in a circle. It's a cost effective system.

If you think it looks weird from a plane, you should know that these circular fields are also visible from space. They look like pock marks.

it depends on the irrigation system... some crops deliver water from a central spot through a line that goes around the center in a circular shape so they grow their crops in the circle that gets watered...
