I've heard good things about Trane equipment. I have also heard good things about Carrier, but one thing you should know is Carrier ownes a lot of the lesser known name brands (like Arcoaire for example) so if you choose something like Carrier, it's safe to say you're paying for the name. The number one thing to look out for is the installer of your new equipment, if this person doesn't know what they are doing, it may effect you in the long run.

I assume you are not talking about a window unit. If you want a sytem for your house, I would recommend an Admiral. I have one, and it is better than a Trane.

Well.. I am sort of biased on that.. I have had several and by FAR.. BY FAR the best has been the TRANE air conditioner and its associated air handler....

Many many factors involved in determining what ac is good for your situation. Everything including the cubic footage of your house, the insulation, the materials your walls are made form, the color of your shingles, R-value of your windows, the number of windows, shade trees in your yard, your geographic location, which direction your house faces and more. an alternative approach is to have French-style shutters on your windows and close the ones facing the sun. With that and ceramic floortiles we are cool in the summer. (Southern France, 42 deg C)
