The closer the object, the more the ciliary muscles must contract to focus on that object, thus the more eye strain caused. A PC would probably be closer than a TV to your eyes, so, unless your TV is closer, being on a PC causes more eye strain. To lessen the strain, look far ahead (eg out of a window) regularly to let your ciliary muscles relax.

US scientists today warned that squinting at a computer screen can cut in half the number of times the viewer blinks each minute, leading to a painful and irritating condition called dry eye.
This above is a quote from a medical jornal - pc screen's cause more eye strain. We stare at the constantly, they emitt a much brighter glow and are large, and we sit right next to them and stare at them.
New pc screen are being developed to help combat this eye strain and glow - but the best ,method is to block out the high levels of UV light emmited - by using a uv protected screen.

eye strain is caused from the amount of light that enters the eye. focusing on a bright surface causes the pupils to contract, that's why when you look at the sun your eyes hurt. because the pupils are forced to contract rapidly causing a great deal of discomfort. when you watch TV or your PC make sure there is plenty of light in the room and take breaks every hour or so, especially when in front of the PC

Watching anything at a fixed distance for a long time causes eye strain - be it a book, T.V. or computer - the eyes need to keep moving (like any other part of the body) and so they need to change their focal distances quite frequently (rather like if you keep your legs or arms in a set position for too long you get cramps or pains).
Too much time spent in front of a book, a T.V. or computer causes the need to wear glasses prematurely because the eyes are not given the opportunity to focus on middle and long distance enough.

Both cause eye strain , but it depends on how long you are staring at each. If you spend more time watching tv then tv can give you eye strain. But if you spend hours at a computer , then you can also get eye strain.

i would guess being on a PC would be worse than watching TV. just my opinion. the PC is much closer. when i started a new job at a computer screen and working at my desk, my eyes quickly got worse. my eye dr. told me that my eyes were fixed on things that were very close to me and my eyes didn't have to see anything far. so he suggested that when ever i got a chance, to look at something in the distance---out the window, down a hallway, etc, to let my eyes see distance as well as close up. hope this helps!

PC.
It can cause night blindness when driving a car.
Flat screens have improved this but it's still an issue plus you sit much closer to a PC then a TV ( I hope).
