The mind is a very complex organism. Usually, our brain is only capable of stimulating certain parts of the brain. Our genetics will determine what parts those are. This will make us more receptive to "book smarts" or common sense. That does not mean we can't learn both but one will always come easier than the other. Good example, Einstein could barely tie his shoes. It was too simple for him and he could not comprehend it.

No, you can have little or lots of common sense regardless of your intelligence, but I believe that the most important trait of common sense is having the intelligence to think before you act.
